Making Time for Family - 10/19/2016
From Pastor Chris

Jesus consistently referred to God as “my Father” and declared, “whoever does the will of my Father in heaven is my brother and sister and mother” (Matthew 12:50). As the early church grew, Jesus’ followers adopted this family language, such that references to “brothers and sisters” permeate the letters concerning church life.

This understanding of church as family undergirds the Church Family Life Celebration we will have on November 16th. For many churches, gatherings like these can focus on “business.” Of course, all families have to talk about how to wisely steward money and buildings. But those are peripheral. What is central to our family is sharing life in Christ together—our joys and sorrows, trials and triumphs. And the experience is always better around food.

Please make time for family and plan to be part of our Church Family Life Celebration on November 16th. Our evening will begin with a Chili Cook-off and Bake-off (see details below for how you can participate). After we eat, we will highlight different ways that God is at work in and through our church family, including a look at our finances. Our desire is to gather for these celebrations once a quarter, so please make this a priority in your schedule.

Rachael and I felt extremely blessed by the installation service on Sunday and are grateful for the way you are welcoming us into the Groveton Baptist Church family. May our Father deepen our love for one another and bring new brothers and sisters into this family!

P.S. To enter the Chili Cook-off and/or the Bake-off, click here  [link: send email to info@grovetonbaptistchurch.org]. The entry fee will be a donation to our Food Pantry, as we desire not only to feed our own family but to provide for others in need. Options for the donation include: small canned hams (about 2 lbs), instant mashed potatoes, boxed stuffing mix, dessert mixes (cake, brownies, muffins), instant coffee, or a $5 donation. For the Chili Cook-off, awards will be given for Best All Around Chili, Best Mild Chili, Best Spicy Chili, and Most Unique Chili. For the Bake-off, awards will be given for Best All Around Desert, Best Cake, Best Pie, and Best Cookie.
